Hello, everyone. Welcome to another edition of Author's Corner. Summer is flying by for me and August looks to be no exception. On August 1, I'm flying to Los Angeles for a pitch festival. This is an opportunity for me to spend 7 minutes each with a large number of movie execs. I'm anxious to promote the Fractured Time Trilogy to them as a movie project. It seems foolish to wait idly for the current movie companies to make up their minds.

I'd like to thank Tracy at Barnes & Noble in Exton, Pa., Bob of Waldenbooks in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. and MaryLou & Keely of Waldenbooks in Springfield, Pa. for their support in having me to their stores for a signing event. They're a great bunch of people. I'll be taking a break from signings for a little while to catch up on my writing. It's been a busy summer.

For those of you in the tri-state area (Pa/NJ/Del), Twisted Fate is now available at Waldenbooks in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Barnes & Noble in Marlton, NJ and in Exton, Pa.

Last week in Exton Barnes & Noble, I spoke with an individual who has written a story about everyday humor and real life. She asked me what she has to do first to send her manuscript to a publisher. I thought this would be a good story to cover even though I covered these details in previous editions of Author's Corner. This seems like a good story to follow because it focuses on one possible direction for a particular genre. Each month I'll update you on our progress. Here are the initial steps we're following:

  1. Protect the material by registering it with the Writers' Guild at www.wgae.org. It's money well spent to protect your material prior to copyright.
  2. Generate a good query letter. This is your foot in the door to a publisher. Give a brief introduction of yourself and what your story is about. Some publishers request other entries in the letter as well.
  3. Research publishers to find out if they publish that genre of material.
  4. Be aware of what they require in a submission. Sometimes it saves time if you call them and ask if they are accepting submissions at this time. If you don't follow their guidelines, there's a good chance they won't even consider your work if you don't comply with their requirements.
On August 29th, I'll be at DragonCon in Atlanta. This should be a very exciting weekend and I hope to meet some interesting people while I'm down there. So next month's edition of Author's Corner may run a little late.

Thanks again for all your support. If you have any questions, contact me through the website and I'll do my best to answer you.
