Welcome, everyone, to another edition of Author's Corner. DragonCon has come and gone, signaling the end of another summer in my home. Now, I've got to make a number of important decisions that I've been delaying.
First, and foremost, I need to complete my script for Fractured Time. I found a very interesting site at www.simplyscripts/movie.html which carries a number of screenplays from prominent movies. I've begun reviewing a few of them and comparing them to what I've written. I was amazed at the difference. I have learned that it's very important to have at least one "hook" in the first thirty pages or else …
Next, on my agenda, is Dark Horizon. I need to make a decision on a publisher soon. I've been waiting for a response from Tor Books, which may not come until October. I'm also pursuing two smaller presses as well in hopes of having one publisher pick up all three books.
I'm currently researching book publicists. I'll talk more about this next month when I finish my research. I've found that I can't keep up with all the work required to promote and market books. Needless to say, I'm disappointed in the support I've received from both publishers. Unfortunately, that's the business.
DragonCon had its usual lineup of top notch musical groups, which played into the wee hours of the morning. Last year, I met Tracy Scoggins and had the pleasure of a short conversation with her. This year, I had the chance to see another amazing female, Julie Caitlin Brown. Not only is she a writer, she's a musician and a manager. She manages an up and coming group called Ghost of the Robot featuring James Marsters. Marsters is better known as Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The impressive thing is that Brown is good at all of these things.
Join me next month for another edition of Author's Corner. Thanks again.
