Welcome back to another edition of Author's Corner. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. Please take a moment to remember our troops who were killed or deployed overseas in the war on terrorism. We have much to be thankful for.

I like to cover topics relative to different types of writing. This month's topic is the Coverage Report. When you submit a manuscript to the Development department of a motion picture company, a coverage report is prepared based on the manuscript. This report usually includes a log line (one line describing the story), a synopsis (2-3 pages), and an analysis detailing highlights, lowlights, main characters and other items of interest to a producer. At the completion of the report, the analyst will assign the story a rating of either recommend, may reconsider or pass. Normally, the writer never sees this report.

I found a company which develops these reports for writers for a reasonable fee. This company can be accessed through www.soyouwannasellascript.com and they were charging $150.00 to do a coverage report on my story. Their turn around time is 7-10 days, which is remarkable.

When I received my report, I was impressed with the quality and thoroughness. Not only were the flaws identified, but an explanation was included as to why they were flaws and what the industry prefers. If you are writing a screenplay, this is a worthwhile service to consider. I'm sure there are other companies that perform this, but I haven't run across them as of yet.

I'm still awaiting responses from several groups for major issues in my campaign. I'm hoping that, by next edition of Author's Corner, I'll have some information regarding the paperback publication of Fractured Time, required reading at selected school districts and screenplay submissions, and the submission of Dark Horizon to a selected publisher. Thanks again for joining me. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
