Welcome back to another edition of Author's Corner. Things seem to be progressing slowly between the new Space frontiers series and the screenplays/series for the Fractured Time Trilogy. I was recently asked to provide synopses of my Fractured Time project to a producer for evaluation and consideration. The fun part was that I didn't have any synopses, except for Fractured Time. Even that wasn't a very good one. Obviously, I had a lot of work to do and I'm beginning to develop a rhythm for writing synopses. What a job it was! I sent the synopses for the first screenplay and TV series only. Since that time, I was able to complete the others. I'm waiting to hear back from the producer whether or not he's interested in seeing the others. I found it difficult to write the synopses at first, because I kept writing as if it were the actual story. A synopsis shouldn't be that long and I couldn't figure out what to include and how to include it. Just recently, I changed gears a bit in regard to my new novel, The Eye of Icarus. I was really turned off by the big publishers because of the time it takes to get a response, let alone get published. However, I spoke with a friend of mine about a publishing company I would like to have read my manuscript. This friend will attempt to contact another friend at the company about giving my project a look. As a result, I haven't submitted it yet to my previous publisher like I planned. Why would I bother to switch like this? I'm finding that I don't have enough time to handle everything. I'm looking for the publisher to handle the outlets for book sales, whether it's a vendor at a convention or a bookstore. I love attending events and meeting people, but as the number of books grows, so does the amount I bring to the stores and conventions. Since this is the first book in a series, this is the time I need to try a big publisher. I'll have more information on this next month as things unfold. BaltiCon is just around the corner on May 27th. I'm participating on several panels and I'll have a table in the dealers' hall. If you're in Baltimore, come check out the convention. Their website is www.balticon.org. The following weekend, I'll be in Charlotte, NC for ConCarolinas. "Flights of Fantasy" is carrying my books in the dealers' hall. I'll be around to autograph books at the booth and after several of the panels. Their website is www.secfi.org/concarolinas/. Looking ahead, I'll be at DragonCon (Atlanta), AlbaCon (Albany) and PhilCon (Philadelphia). I'll post information on other conventions as they confirm. This month's writers' tip is surprisingly enough, about synopses. For starters, I found a website entitled Done Deal at www.scriptsales.com/ and looked under the category of examples. There were some really good examples of coverage letters, query letters, synopses, agreements, releases, etc. This is a really good reference source to check out. I found it very helpful. Join me next month for another edition of Author's Corner.
