Welcome back, everyone, to another edition of Author's Corner. It's been a very exciting month with DragonCon in Atlanta and CopperCon in Phoenix. I don't have much time to regroup until AlbaCon (Albany, NY) on October 7th and AstronomiCon (Rochester, NY) on November 11th. Afterwards, I'll be at home for PhilCon on December 9th. I really enjoy attending these conventions and meeting new faces. While at DragonCon, I had the opportunity to meet some of the lovely stars in science fiction today including Gigi Edgely and Virginia Hey of Farscape; Marina Sirtis of Star Trek and Leslie Coulton, very talented writer and actress who is currently involved in women's wrestling. A good friend of mine, Ken Foree was also in attendance. He has starred in Babylon 5, Day of the Dead, House of 1000 Corpses and recently Devil's Rejects. I had hoped to meet Kevin Sorbo but I was always one step behind. He has starred in a number of great shows like Andromeda, Hercules, Kull the Conqueror and many others. The pirate theme seems to be growing among the conventions, especially among the women. I find this very intriguing. Perhaps I'll get a panel at one of the upcoming Cons to discuss this rising popularity. I met two young ladies at DragonCon, Alex and Lania, who were quite impressive in their pirate outfits. Who said, "there aren't any women pirates?" I met many new friends among the fans as well. Some of you had asked about purchasing books from me at the discounted convention price. If I missed you, contact me by e-mail and we'll hook up. CopperCon was very nice, although not nearly the size of DragonCon. DragonCon is unique in that respect. This was a literary convention with a number of interesting groups attending. I met with "The Dark Ones", who host a gaming convention every other January in Phoenix; members of LosCon from LA, and some of the smaller local groups as well. I'd like to thank Cathy B for inviting me to CopperCon and congratulate her for a very successful convention. I think everyone had a great time. There's nothing new to report on the movie front yet, nor from the publishers. I've heard that I should have a response by December regarding my new series Space Frontiers. Sometimes it's tough waiting for decisions as important as this. I deal with it by writing more. As I mentioned in previous editions of my Corner, Eye of Icarus is the first book in the series. Dangerous Liaisons is the second book and was just completed recently. If you liked the Fractured Time trilogy, I'm sure you'll love Space Frontiers. Eye of Icarus will also have two screenplays covering each half of the story. They can be used as a two-part movie or as two separate movies. I will begin shopping them in January. I met with some members of the Tampa Klingon Force at DragonCon and learned some interesting things about their group. I also attended the Klingon beauty pageant, which was a blast. I'm impressed by how committed they are to their cause as well as a number of charity causes. They portray their Klingon heritage to the most minute details. I'm considering the practicality of using them in my third book. There are lots of things to be worked out, but hopefully I can do something that's beneficial for their group. I have to research some legal issues before doing so such as the use of the Klingon name, which is probably proprietary. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to meet with them and discuss what they would like to see versus what I can use. I didn't have time to prepare a writer's tip for this month, but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm always happy to help new writers. Thanks for joining me again. Come back next month to hear about my visit to AlbaCon. - Michael D'Ambrosio . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
