Welcome to the July edition of Author's Corner. It's been a while since I had good news to announce regarding my projects. I recently signed a contract with Helm Publishing for my new Space Frontiers Series beginning with The Eye of Icarus which will be released in March of 2008.

I recently spoke with du Jour Entertainment/Gypsy Films and they are confident that we'll have a deal soon for the Fractured Time movie. Now, keep in mind, this is the movie business and things can change anytime. It is encouraging to know that the feedback on the FT screenplay was very good. They are aware of the thirteen episode TV series and may bring that forward if the situation is right.

They expressed an interest in two other screenplays of mine: The Christmas Solution and Night Creeps. I've received very good feedback for Night Creeps from producers I've submitted to. Unfortunately, they were obligated to a different topic in the horror genre.

I'm hoping for a response from Swan Publishing soon on the new, expanded version of the Fractured Time Trilogy which now includes new scenes used in the TV series. The original novels were considered young adult due to the size (approximately 55,000 words). The new version of each book is closer to 100,000 words.

I'm currently working on a novel for Night Creeps. When I looked back at the screenplay, it seemed much easier to write a novel. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to go into a lot of details about the different types of mutations and the hybrid women. If you think women can be evil, you haven't seen anything until you've seen or read Night Creeps. Nothing personal, ladies, but I think you'll enjoy this, too. I hope to have it finished before the end of the summer. Hopefully, we'll have a Night Creeps movie to look forward to by then. I prepare outlines for sequels for all my projects so a sequel for Night Creeps will be possible.

Shortly, I'll be at Shore Leave in Hunt Valley, Baltimore. As I mentioned before, I was too late to participate in the convention, but I'm attending anyway with a few friends as fans. I plan to distribute updated flyers and I'll have some copies of the Trilogy for anyone who's interested. I'll se eif Waldenbooks can carry them as well in the dealers' room.

In October, I'll be at MileHiCon in Denver. After that, I'm awaiting word from CapriCon in Chicago. They're scheduled for February 14-17th. As soon as I receive confirmation, I'll let you know. I am considering adding a convention in November but I haven't decided yet. Among the considerations are PhilCon, AstronomiCon and WindyCon.

This month's writers' tip is about promoting yourself whether you write novels, poetry or screenplays. Sometimes you can promote yourself by promoting a topic like screenwriting or getting published or subtopics within those. During your presentation, you can promote your own works as examples. I recommend offering to speak at libraries, high schools, colleges for starters. They typically will offer to let you sell your books at the completion of the presentation. This also gives you an opportunity to work on your public speaking as well.

Book signings are hit or miss unless you're a big name. Basically, as a new or not well known author, you count on many of the regular customers coming into the store. If it's a slow night due to weather, sporting events or holiday proximity, you'll be a lonely person.

When you schedule an appearance, contact other schools or libraries and invite them to send students and members to see you. This is where your expertise on writing topics comes in handy.

Thanks for joining me. Come back next month for another edition of Author's Corner.
