THE EYE OF ICARUS First Novel in a New Sci-Fi Series from Michael D'Ambrosio To Be Released Spring 2008 By Helm Publishing THE EYE OF ICARUS, the fourth novel from sci-fi/fantasy author Mike D'Ambrosio, scheduled for release in March 2008 by Helm Publishing, is a non-stop thrill ride of rescues, attacks, escapes, carnivorous creatures, space battles, chases, hijackings, sword fights, captures, intense intergalactic feuds and unexpected romance. In this exciting new book, a young shape-shifter and the attractive priestess he rescues set out on a dangerous mission (from the damsel's all-female planet) to obtain a powerful crystal that reveals the future—while they battle a barbaric king who, through this crystal, knows their plans better than they do. D'Ambrosio is the author of the popular Fractured Time trilogy (Fractured Time, Twisted Fate and Dark Horizon), two of which he has also adapted into TV series scripts and movie screenplays (repped by Metropol Literary and Du Jour Entertainment). He's also created a two movie miniseries adapted from his novel entitled The Eye of Icarus and Leviathan (The Abacus Group) as well as screenplays for The Christmas Solution (The Screenplay Agency), the horror script Night Creeps and the murder-suspense script The Queen of Spades D'Ambrosio, who spent 22 years in the Air National Guard, explains: "Icarus came about because of several tactical decisions I didn't agree with in the military—things that affected history from Somalia to modern day Iraq. "Icarus gives me the opportunity to take a young character (Will) and play out the scenario of what could happen when a young officer disobeys orders and does what he thinks is right in challenging situations. By doing so, he ignites a powder keg full of problems of a critical nature, driving himself to mature quickly and deal with the dire consequences of his actions on a delicate balance. About The Eye of Icarus: "This is the first volume in a multiple-book series, three of which I have already completed. In each story, Will's challenges and responsibilities grow as he finds again and again that he's in too far to turn back." In the last few years, D'Ambrosio has conducted or participated in seminars on screenplay writing, getting published, how sci-fi screenplays and novels differ, how young writers can market and promote their work, romance vs. erotica, and pirates in science fiction—at 24 sci-fi conventions in 10 states. "The film Independence Day had a huge influence on how I write sci-fi novels and screenplays, because it had all the elements of a great story," D'Ambrosio notes. "It had something for everybody: the science fiction crowd, horror fans and the large drama audience. I love to write for everybody, not just a particular crowd." Although sci-fi/fantasy works tend to skew toward a male audience, D'Ambrosio's works have so far attracted a broad readership that is 14 and older and about 50-50 male and female. AUTHOR BIO Michael D'Ambrosio has signed copies of his first three novels and held seminars on novel and screenplay writing at more than 24 sci-fi conventions in 18 cities over the past four years. D'Ambrosio has also done book signings at libraries, high schools, colleges and bookstores throughout the country. He has also written seven screenplays and two sci-fi television series, which are on the market. Born and raised in Philadelphia, D'Ambrosio earned four Associates' degrees (in liberal arts, electronic technology, general education and aircraft armament technology) from Widener University, Delaware County Community College and Community College of the Air Force, and a B.S. from Widener in Technical and Industrial Administration. He spent 22 years in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, rising to the rank of technical sergeant and working as a weapons load crew chief. He works as a nuclear controls technician for Public Service Electric and Gas (in New Jersey) and was formerly an applications engineer/nuclear field engineer who designed and developed nuclear system upgrades for Teleflex Inc.
